After my trip of 8 days in the Kruger National Park, I have to make a few observation about the park as it is today.

  1. The wild card is great!!!
  2. The food and service in the restaurants have improved.
  3. The security is still as good as ever, if you do wrong we will feed you to the nearest pride… Mouhahahahaha…
  4. The campsite still need some attention:
    1. A delimitation of each site would be nice
    2. A serious upgrade and renewal of most the ablution block is in order.
    3. Grassed areas for the tents would be appreciated.
  5. April to June is pensioner’s time so if you want to go during that period book early!!!
  6. The best time to go is May or September, but don’t tell anyone.
  7. If you want to to 7-8 days in Kruger Park start at the south Berg-en-Dal and move up to Punda Maria.
  8. Do some hikes, mountain biking and morning/evening/night drives.

And remember to forget about seeing anything go for the drive, anything you see is a bonus. Kruger National Park is about Africa not about wildlife.

Oh I forgot an important point, if you want to catch wildlife, any wildlife at all have the equipment for it. I recommend to have at least a 200mm lens if not more, I personally use a 100-400mm or a video camera with a 10x plus zoom or even better both.

It is an experience, I have been to Kruger National Park many times and can never have enough. So is it my favourite park in South Africa? No, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Northern Cape is by far my favourite directly followed by the majestic if tiny Mountain Zebra National Park in the Eastern Cape. But it does not change the fact that I will go back.
