We left Bulule Rustic Camp early and were handsomely rewarded for it. Another skirmish, this time between a African Fish Eagle and a couple of Egyptian Geese, to my utter surprise the geese won. That’s also the day I discovered that I had forgotten to push my ISO settings to 400 for higher speeds in the park, I should know better. We then came across un unusual sight a bunch of vultures from different species eating away on the side of the road. We also saw a skittish hyena, more elephants and zebras. We took the long way to Shingwedzi via the sand roads again (S91, H1-5, H9, S131, S133, H14, H1-6, S142, H1-6), stopping at Mopani to have lunch on the deck. Unfortunately for us it rained for the better part of the day.

A side note to the greater public, the camps in the park become retirement villages in low season, no jokes the camping grounds are full of retired people, if you wish to camp book early.

We spent the night at the Shingwedzi Camp, it needs a revamp which I believe is in process.

Some useless statistics of the day:

  • Distance travelled: 262km
  • Maximum temperature: 23 degrees Celsius
  • Weather conditions: 90% cloud cover, rain.
  • Photos taken: 401
