We stayed in the Oliphant / Letaba region as we were to go back to Balule Rustic Camp, it was another hot day in the bush paradise. We decided to go back to Letaba the “long way around” the trip took us on the sand roads between the 2 (S92, S93, S44, S46, S47, H9, H1-5, S91). It all began with the inevitable Liliacbreasted Roller and a Giraffe but the catch of the morning was a skirmish between a Crocodile and an Hippopotamus at the Olifants Lookout point on the S44. I was very surprised by the amount of Crocodiles, Hippopotamus, Vultures and Elephants in the park. The catch of the day must of been the most elusive predator of the park, the Leopard just before 16:00 on the S47.

We spent the night at the Balule Rustic Camp and had a major storm.

Some useless statistics of the day:

  • Distance travelled: 231km
  • Maximum temperature: 31 degrees Celsius
  • Weather conditions: 40% cloud cover, major storm at night.
  • Photos taken: 318
